July the Fourth Voting

“In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
George Orwell
July the Fourth Voting!

Allow an entire week for people to vote on the first week of July the forth.

Allowing people to vote on the first week of July the fourth; thus ensure citizens the time to vote that current voting practices do not.

The fourth of July is a day off for so many people; students and workers alike. Often public transportation is free and readily available in so many cities, townships and the like. Friends and neighbors can carpool. The benefits are endless!

The weather is warmer, sunnier and agreeable for the elderly, handicapped and the young; instead of being bone chilling cold, wet and snowy like February or November.

In these challenging, uncertain and difficult economic times so many people are working two or three or more jobs to merely survive. So many people cannot vote on a singe Tuesday because either they’re too tired, or cannot afford the time and energy of transportation that a single day of voting demands while getting off from work.

We should all celebrate the Fourth of July by being able to vote! What greater why to remember and honor the brave women and men who have given their fullest measure.

We the people must now decide the future of our elected officials. Not a selected few. Secret balloting, voting fraud and irregularities! For a fair, accountable and transparent voting for all Americans, we the people now must demand, that elected officials from alderman to mayors from congressmen to presidents be elected on the first week of July the forth!

Case Study - Skokie 2009 April Election:
  1. Why did Skokie have an election in April?
  2. Was it to have as little turnout as possible?
  3. During religious holidays!
  4. College Exams!
  5. Spring Break
  6. Or to confuse Skokie residents who are accustomed to voting in February and November ?
If approximately 68,423 residents (see Green above in charts) live in a township and an elected official won by 1,749 votes (see Orange above in charts) was that a transparent & publicly known election?

If an election was taking place about a year (2009) before regular Cook County voting (2010) was this in the public best interest of being transparent, open & faire elections?

Was the public informed in 2009 of the time & place to vote in multiple languages with various informational brochures like regular Cook County 2010 election season?

Would the public be more or less informed of where, when & how to vote if the Village of Skokie elections had taken place during regular Cook County February 2010 election season instead of April 2009?

Will the Village of Skokie become bankrupt?

Can the Village of Skokie become another Enron? Most people would assume that’s impossible. Well, think again. Westfall Township in Pennsylvania is a perfect example. Ernest Hemingway wrote once "How did you go bankrupt?" -"Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly."

Westfall Township Files for Bankruptcy
April, 15 2009 WNEP-TV Channel 16
http://www.wnep.com/news/countybycounty/wnep-westfall-township-files-for-bankruptcy,0,4660471.story

“Now, we’re going to be paying it strictly through property taxes,”

“But please, don’t touch my income. I just can’t afford to pay any more.”

Though it is not common for a government entity to declare bankruptcy, it is not unprecedented. Orange County, Calif., declared bankruptcy in 1994 after losing $1.7 billion in taxpayer money on risky Wall Street investments. Nevertheless, at the very least serious reviews should be made into preventing such costly damages to Skokie residents.

Once again that is why full, open & accessible transparency of Village of Skokie is so important. Public information should be easily accessible via online with a few mouse clicks. When I first moved to Skokie from Chicago in 2005 I told my friend and landord to buy gold. She said she would think about it. Many years later she recollocts how I told her that bit of small advice. My assumption being gold would be a superior arbitrage differential between inflation and "perhaps" deflation. In any regards, since she's a home owner I would leave her with this small humble advice:

Skokie + 10 years = Enron.

All Skokie citizenry should expect, demand & require only the highest caliber of patriotism, work ethic dedication & moral commitment openly expressed through ones day to day convictions that reflect ones actions. In other words, public service is a 24 hours a day & 7 days a week job requiring no less. Don't talk the talk but walk the walk.
Having the streets & parks become littered with garbage is very symbolic. Especially in these dire, precarious & unpredictable economic times. Honestly through transparency. Like the 1990's saying goes "it's the economy stupid".

Education

The kids in Skokie are just brilliant! The students constant improvising, updating and all the hard work Skokie’s school districts students do are amazing. From starting the the use of Google Apps, Dropal & more at Niles North to all Video productions from Niles Wets is just astounding! At times, the teacher becomes the student and the student the teacher. There is always something now and then we can learn from our children if their given a chance.

Police

Let's make teh Skokie Police part of CrimeReports.com. Let’s get more patrols with a two member team per police car. The importance of this very simple change cannot be over estimated. Additional police officers would be required. There’s plenty of government funding out there. Start a Police Information Technology Forensic Team. Promote some of the rank and file to detectives. Share the present Police station with InterPol. The methods are endless!

Technology

Let’s make the entire Village of Skokie technologies Open Source. Open Source technologies are just a few very simple methods to modernize and save tax payers money!

  • Ubuntu vs. Windows, Apple, etc.

  • CentOS vs. Microsoft Server, Novell, etc.

  • Google Apps vs. Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, etc.

For just $12.95 a month the Village of Skokie can have a modern, easy to use & efficient email system capable for a 1,000 Skokie employees from Yahoo Small Business.

A 2006 Gartner Report stated: www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=497088
"Too many IT organizations and too much IT spending is not contributing directly to business growth, according to Gartner, Inc. In fact, eight out of ten dollars that companies spend on IT is “dead money”.

"At least two-thirds of all IT spending is just to sustain the business, not to change or transform the business. The investments allocated to do new things, to change the business, are usually low, no more than 20 percent, and the investment in innovations which could transform the business is even less."

That’s why transparency is so important with tax payer’s money. Technology does not have to be complicated nor expensive all the time.

Religious Paradise

Let’s make the Village of Skokie a cultural paradise by daring the Hindus, Jews, & Muslims of Skokie to build their respective house of worship next-door to each other. I ask the question is your hatred for your enemy greater than your love of your children. Don’t let your children’s future be about your struggle with theological inferiority complexes. In other words, our greatest weapon against terrorism we face today is our children. Show the world how so many of Skokie’s children play together from so many diverse religious backgrounds.
